Kansas Hunting Trips

duck hunting in kansas
Hunting

Kansas duck hunting and goose hunting

We began our Kansas operation in 2019. Since that time we have grown into a massive outfit. We now operate in three different locations in the state that we call our golden triangle. In total we hunt 60,000 acres.

Our Golden Triangle

It's About Location,Location, Location

We just didn't choose our locations by random chance. We planned for migration patterns, historic productivity patterns, and diversity in the birds we could take. When possible it gives us the ability to spread out our hunters for exclusivity. It also gives us the flexibility to move to maximize productivity. Please read on to see what each of these areas has to offer.

The operation at a closer look

The OG in the southeast

This is where it all started for us. We hunt a variety of exclusive private cattle ponds, rivers, large watersheds, and AG fields. But with the cold in January the center pieces become the larger River systems and Timber Creek Lake. We have made a concerted effort over the years to accumulate a lot of productive AG fields around these two water systems. The numerous ponds and smaller watersheds lock up with ice during January (everything being equal) and this drives the birds to these larger and moving water systems. The birds pour into our areas on the Walnut and Timber Creek. We let them refuge and build there and we hunt the AG fields around them. At its best we are targeting thousands of birds. We operate out of the town of Winfield for this area. Winfield has a variety stores including a Walmart, for supplies or personal needs you may have.

The Northern Station

The Northern Station operates out of Abilene Kansas near the larger towns of Manhattan and Salina. We hunt around 20,000 acres, a lot of river holes, ponds, and AG fields. A lot of our ground is around Milford Lake. This large lake and it wildlife area holds thousands of birds every year. This northern area allows us to get on the birds early, it also is a huge benefit during milder seasons. During such seasons the birds hang up in this area. If the weather won't bring them to us  we have a place where we can go to them. This makes the Northern Station a great addition to our hunting options.

Carr's West

Carr's West is the crown jewel of hunting options. We hunt 15,000 acres of exclusive private ground. We do a lot of dry field hunts, but also ponds, and river hunts on the Arkansas. We are located 15-minutes south of the Quivira Wildlife Refuge and just 30-minutes south of Cheyenne Bottoms Wildlife area. Both of these systems are known for wintering ten's of thousands of ducks and geese. We also target sandhill cranes as well as mixing in some pheasant combo hunts at Carr's West. As a side note we offer whitetail hunts for trophy whitetails. Carr's West is located in Stafford, but the larger town of Hutch is located 45-minutes to the east. A great place to get items you may need including your licenses.

Our Ducks And Geese

We predominantly take mallards and a big variety of geese. But you can expect a good mix of pintails, widgeon, and gadwalls to contribute to the strap on the duck side, especially in December. As for the geese, we never know what to expect; lessers, greaters, giants, snows, specks, could all be working our spread at the same time. We take great pride in the number of cacklers we take every season! You also will be surprised at the number of redheads, ring-necks, and cans that stage on the bigger lakes as they move south. The huge benefit of our operation, is because we operate in such a large area of Kansas there's nothing we can't get after.

The Hunt

Whether we are set up on one of our AG fields or one of the many potholes most of the hunting is done from comfortable Tanglefree panelblinds or layout blinds.  We access all of our areas with UTV side by sides and literally in most cases drive right up to the blind area. Ninety five percent of our hunting is less than a 30-minute commute, However we do have several properties that are a 45-minute to an hour commute. Generally you can expect a full day of hunting, however sometimes mitigating factors may prevent that from taking place.

Clothing

The Kansas winters can be brutal and the wind can cut like a knife. Your clothing should be windproof and waterproof. Waterproof knee high field boots are strongly recommended. If you have waders please bring them if possible. If you don't have a favorite clothing brand, I recommend that you check out Sitka. I cannot stress how important it is to have clothing that is lightweight, but yet will keep you warm and dry.

Additional Information

Ammo- we recommend that you use one of the high density loads manufactured by brands such as Boss Ammo or Heavy X. If you so choose to, we recommend No.-4’s or 5’s for ducks and No.2’s for geese. If you choose to go with straight steel then use No.-2’s for ducks and BB’s for geese.

License-You will need to purchase the following: a Kansas state hunting license, a Kansas state waterfowl stamp, federal duck stamp( please sign your federal stamp), and Kansas HIP stamp.

Dogs- You are welcome to bring your own dog, provided they are well behaved, uncontrollable dogs will not be tolerated. Dogs must be crated at night or when they are un supervised.

Bird Processing- all birds are either breasted or hitched and packaged individually with its tag. We have freezers and refrigeration on site. Cost of cleaning is $5.00 per bird or you are welcome to use our bird cleaning facility and supplies for self service cleaning.

Arrival And Departure- our hunters should arrive the day before their first scheduled hunt day no earlier than 4PM and can depart after the last hunt or the day after by 9AM. We do not provide transportation to and from the airport.
